Unlock the Power of Your VA Benefits for Home Care

Your VA benefits may cover the cost of in-home care for you or your spouse — help with dressing, bathing, mobility, meals, and daily activities. If you have a disability or illness, you may be eligible for one or more of these programs:

Pension Add-On

Aid & Attendance

Additional monthly pension for eligible veterans, spouses, or surviving spouses who need help with daily activities, memory care, or support for a disability or illness.

Pension Add-On

Housebound Pension

For veterans who spend most of their time at home due to a permanent disability, this benefit can help cover the cost of daily-activity support and in-home care.

VA Program

Homemaker & Home Health Aide

Personal care and help with daily activities delivered in your home by a VA-authorized agency — including respite care that gives family caregivers a break.

How the Homemaker & Home Health Aide Program Works

Per the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, here’s what to expect from the Homemaker and Home Health Aide program:

  1. Get authorized

Veterans must be authorized for the program by the VA before selecting a home care provider. Talk to your VA social worker or primary care team to start.

  2. Choose your provider

Once authorized, you choose the provider that fits your preferences. The VA’s goal is a strong match between each veteran and their caregiver.

  3. Start care at home

Your caregiver comes to you — on a schedule built around your needs. Questions along the way? The VA Caregiver Support Line is available at (855) 260-3274.
